I was delighted to attend yet another AIM conference this year, and just like last year, it was fantastic. For those that don’t know AIM stands for the Association of Independent Museums and it is a wonderful organisation created to support and help develop independent museums. Heritage Creative is proud to be an Associate Supplier for AIM.

My wife and I drove down to Newark on the Thursday in time to make the AIM annual dinner which was held at Thoresby Hall, a grade I listed 19th-century country house in Nottinghamshire. The event started with enough sparkling wine to temper the nerves so that we were able to mingle and socialise. I remembered some friendly faces from last year and met some new people as well. There was fine food, wine, speeches and yet more wine, and it was a fantastic evening and a great start to the conference for us as we weren’t able to make the first conference day.

The next day we traveled down to Newark itself to attend the conference at the wonderful Civil War Museum. There were plenty of supplier stands and lots to see for anyone within the heritage or culture sectors. We did yet more miglinging as well as a quick tour around the museum before we had to check into our next hotel. Next year I will be sure to book early so that we don’t have to do that again!

In the evening we attended the Friday social which was probably my favourite part of the whole experience. It was held at the incredibly impressive, 12th-century Newark Castle. Yet more sparkling wine before a fantastic reenactment about King John as told by a monk. Really, this is not the sort of thing I thought I would like, but it was so well done, I loved it. After that, yet more wine and onto a hog roast! Fantastic fun all round.

Just like last year I met loads of new people and it was lovely to bring my wife along too as she also has a deep love of the heritage sector. Our visit to this year’s conference also acted as a fact-finding mission as we plan to hold our own event. Over the course of the two days we came up with some great ideas generated through the conversations we had. It was fascinating to get the thoughts, opinions and to try and understand the pain points of curators, museum directors and heritage sector consultants. Purely from a research point of view the conference was invaluable. The fact that it was fun too was a bonus!

Thoughts about Museums & Heritage Show 2018

28 May 2018

We recently went to the Museums & Heritage Show 2018 in London, but honestly, we have just been so busy these last couple of weeks that I simply have not had a moment to write about it. In short, it was fantastic.

What exactly is Heritage anyway?

05 October 2018

I was driving to our new web design studio in Stoke Prior, Near Leominster and it occurred to me that I don’t have this properly defined in my mind.
