Heritage Sector: let’s get back to it!

As anyone within the heritage and culture sectors knows, the COVID-19 pandemic has had a catastrophic impact. Museums, galleries and other heritage organisations have had to shut their doors and send their staff home. Thankfully many have been able to take advantage of the furlough scheme which is helping somewhat, but numerous, especially the smaller museums and organisations are very badly affected.

That said, there seems to be some light at the end of the tunnel. People are cautiously spending a bit more time at parks and outdoors, garden centers are opening, and perhaps it won’t be too long until museums and other visitor attractions can once again open their doors to the public.

We have slowly started to see an uptake in enquiries over the last few weeks, an indicator that the heritage wheels are creaking back into action. I’m also pleased to announce we have numerous new projects under development at the moment.

Firstly, we are working with the national charity Humanists UK, in order to develop a new heritage website for them. The site will allow visitors to explore the history and heritage of the moment which is vast to say the least. This is a great project for us as we are huge fans of the movement.

If you aren’t already acquainted with the Humanists, please do check out their website for an introduction to humanism.

We are also working on a new website for Folk By The Oak, a fantastic folk festival that takes place at heritage locations such as Hatfield House. Folk By The Oak have some world famous artists playing at their venues including Seasick SteveRichard ThompsonKate Rusby and many others. This is a great time to be working on visitor attraction based projects that will be opening next year.

We are finalising a website for the wonderful illustrator Jackie Morris, and are hopeful to get this live for her soon. Jackie was the illustrator and co-author on the best selling book The Lost Words and we are also working on a new version of the website for that.

If the work we are doing is any reflection of the health of the broader sector, then things seem to be looking up!
